Volleyball World (FIVB) has once again topped Red Torch’s 2024 SportOnSocial league table, which evaluates the social media performance of all 42 Summer and Winter Olympic International Federations (IFs) over the past 12 months.
Confirmed:
- World Volleyball beats World Athletics to take first place
- The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) took third place, with World Rugby and World Aquatics rounding out the top five.
- The International Cricket Council (ICC) ranked 11th, the highest ranking for a new team.
- The International Handball Federation (IHF) ranks highest in the rankings, moving up seven places to 23rd place.
- His ranking dropped the most in the World Triathlon, dropping 11 places to 37th.

Using a combination of third-party tools, desk research, and proprietary technology, Red Torch analyzed 322,600 social media posts across 347 primary, discipline, and world championship pages operated by the IF.
Volleyball World, which also topped Redtorch’s league table last year, ranked first in engagement on both X and YouTube, receiving more views on the latter platform than any other IF.
In 2023, IF had the largest increase in followers on Instagram, adding a total of 18.9 million followers. Instagram also contributed to his 71% of all engagements. Meanwhile, TikTok is quickly becoming a popular platform, with his average number of IF followers on the algorithm-powered short video medium increasing by 253%.
Vertical video content also increased over the year, with posts on platforms like Facebook Reels, YouTube Shorts, and TikTok increasing by 118%.
