World Lacrosse welcomed Pakistan as its first new member in 2024, ranking 92nd overall.
Pakistan will become a member of the Asia-Pacific Lacrosse Federation, which currently has 20 members. World Lacrosse has added 19 members since the beginning of 2022, more than doubling its total membership in the past 10 years.
Jim Shah, CEO of World Lacrosse, said: “We are delighted to add Pakistan as a new member and would like to extend a warm welcome to our family to the country’s growing lacrosse community. We appreciate APLU’s tremendous commitment to ensuring our lacrosse players are ready to join this group of dedicated members.”
APLU has added member countries for three consecutive years, with Uzbekistan joining in 2023 and Iran and Cambodia joining in 2022.
APLU’s membership spans the continent and was launched in 2004 in Australia, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and China. APLU doubled in size in 2012 and expanded again in 2022, with members now representing the Middle East, Central Asia, and Southeast Asia. Asia, South Asia, and the Pacific Rim.
APLU will host four of the next five World Lacrosse Championships, starting with the Women’s U20 Championship in Hong Kong, China in August. The men’s U20 championship will be held in Jeju Island, South Korea in 2025, while the men’s and women’s championships will be held in Japan in 2026 and 2027.
APLU is also considering increasing the number of regional events to provide new member countries such as Pakistan and Uzbekistan with more international competition opportunities.
