SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – The utility says a fund has been established by the Springfield Public Utilities Commission to help customers recover from unexpected expenses caused by January’s ice storm.
SUB officials said a $250,000 fund has been established to receive up to $250 to provide relief to customers who meet the income guidelines. SUB officials say through a partnership with Catholic Community Services, customers will be able to receive one-time assistance of up to $250 at the funding application window, which opens at 8 a.m. on March 18, 2024. . The utility said applications will be accepted until all funds are allocated.
“We recognize the need for additional support and have been appealing to the state for additional funding to cover more costs,” SUB General Manager Jeff Nelson said. It added that it will direct customers to resources as they become available. .
Nelson also said these are additional funds so customers can seek other reimbursement options for costs related to the January storm, but in the meantime, SUB is supporting the ongoing recovery of local communities. The company said it is trying to help customers bridge the financial gap. Income eligibility begins for single-person households with incomes of $69,700 or less, SUB officials said.
