JOPLIN, MO – Bright Futures Joplin will host the 7th Annual Guns and Horses Charity Basketball Game between Joplin Police Department and Joplin Fire Department on Saturday, April 13th at the Joplin High School Gymnasium, 2104 Indiana Ave. .
Doors open at 5 p.m., with concessions, giveaways, a silent auction and T-shirt sales. The game begins at 6 p.m. Admission tickets are $5 for adults. All children are free.
A portion of the proceeds from this event will continue to fund the Corporal Ben Cooper and Officer Jake Reed Memorial Scholarship, established by Bright Futures Joplin in 2022 in honor of fallen officers.
Scholarships from the foundation will be awarded to two Joplin High School graduates who will major in criminal justice at Missouri Southern State University later this year.
“We are so grateful for the community’s support in allowing us to honor our fallen officers in this way,” said Bright Futures Joplin Executive Director Amanda Stone. “This game is a super fun family event and a great way to celebrate our local heroes while supporting Joplin students.”
Proceeds from the annual fundraiser also benefit the Bright Futures Joplin Snack Pack program. The program will provide weekend food to approximately 620 food-insecure Joplin preschool, elementary and middle school students, as well as donations of clothing, school supplies, shoes, hygiene products and more. Bright Futures Joplin is a grassroots, community-based program that supports student success by matching student needs and resources through community partnerships. Bright Futures Joplin aims to strengthen communities by promoting bright futures for all students through the support of local businesses, faith-based organizations, social service agencies, volunteers, and parents. The Bright Futures framework was launched in Joplin in 2010 and has since been implemented in more than 70 communities across the country.
