The world’s best figure skaters will converge on Montreal, Canada, this week for the 2024 World Figure Skating Championships.
This year’s event will officially run from March 18th to 24th, but the actual competition begins on Wednesday, March 20th.

As mentioned above, the 2024 World Figure Skating Championships will be held in Montreal at the famous Bell Center, home of the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens. The contest will be held over three days from March 20th to 23rd, with the exhibition opening on Sunday, March 24th.

2024 World Figure Skating Championship skaters, predictions
Japan is home to three of the four defending world figure skating champions, Shoma Ono and Kaori Sakamoto, and the men’s, women’s and pairs world champions Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara, respectively. Americans Madison Chock and Evan Bates are the defending ice dance champions.
All of the athletes mentioned above are returning to this year’s World Championships and are expected to be on the podium once again. Other candidates for the men’s event include Japan’s Yuma Kagiyama, 2022 Olympic silver medalist. Two-time U.S. Champion Ilya Marin (also known as “The God of the Quad”). and 2024 European Champion Adam Hsiao Him Hua from France.
On the women’s side, defending champion Sakamoto will be challenged by European champion Roena Hendricks and Japanese teammate Hana Yoshida, who recently became the 19th woman to land a triple axel in this competition. Newly crowned U.S. women’s champion Amber Glenn could also be on the podium.
The pair match appears to be a showdown between Japan, Canada, and Italy, with the Miura/Kihara pair taking part. Canadian veterans Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps; and current bronze medalists Sara Conti and Niccolo Matthii of Italy.
It is also likely that three countries will compete for the ice dance podium, with Chock and Bates from the United States participating. Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier from Canada. Italy’s Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri are also fighting for gold.

Canada will host the 2024 World Championship for the 11th time. Montreal was originally scheduled to host the 2020 World Championships, but the event was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
