Akasa Airlines has announced that a staggering 3.36 million liters of water has been saved by ditching the traditional water cannon salute on aircraft to commemorate World Water Day 2024.
“336,000 liters of water! Yes, this is the amount we have saved so far by opting out of ceremonial water releases during fleet and new destination opening ceremonies,” Akasa Airlines told X on Friday. I mentioned it in a post on (previously Twitter).
“This World Water Day, we renew our commitment to protecting this precious resource.”
Here’s what Akasa Air posted on X:
Akasa’s revelations come as cities such as Bengaluru face a severe water crisis this summer as wells and several lakes dried up. The water crisis is affecting drinking water supplies and irrigation.
According to the United Nations (UN), 2.2 billion people still lack access to safely managed drinking water, including 115 million people who drink surface water.
2024 World Water Day Theme
This year’s theme is “Water for Peace.”
“This World Water Day, we all need to unite around water, use it for peace and lay the foundations for a more stable and prosperous tomorrow,” the United Nations said.
