BlueFlag Security, a software development lifecycle (SDLC) security company, announced an $11.5 million seed funding round.
The round was led by Maverick Ventures and Ten eleven Ventures, with participation from Pier 88 Investment Partners. This funding is earmarked for the advancement of BlueFlag’s innovative SDLC security and governance platform, which promises comprehensive, identity-centric protection from coding to production.
As software supply chain attacks escalate, the importance of a holistic approach to SDLC security cannot be overstated. Traditional security practices have often focused on defending against the risks of open source software and developer tools, ignoring the important threat vector posed by the identity of both human and machine developers. These identities can introduce vulnerabilities through excessive privileges, poor identity hygiene, and risky account behavior. BlueFlag Security is disrupting the status quo by emphasizing the paramount importance of identity security, combined with a unified risk perspective across the SDLC, to thwart software supply chain attacks.
Founded by Raj Mallempati and Ken Schneider, the company focuses on providing a defense-in-depth platform that combines identity security with open source software risk management and developer tools posture management. The goal is to foster a secure, efficient, and reliable development environment where the protection of identity is as stringent as the protection of the code and tools themselves.
Raj Mallempati, CEO of BlueFlag Security, emphasized the company’s vision: “Our mission is to provide a clean and trusted environment for developers. The BlueFlag platform does more than just add an extra layer of protection. It puts identity security at the center of SDLC security and governance. We are introducing a fundamentally different philosophy: a future where software development is inherently secure and where protecting developer identity is as integral to our protocols as code scanning and configuring developer tools. We ask everyone in the industry to help us advocate.”
The funding will enable BlueFlag Security to leverage AI-driven insights and an identity-first approach to further develop its platform to provide a comprehensive solution for SDLC security. This includes continued compliance with Secure by Design principles and extends beyond the code to include the developer’s identity and tools, thereby reducing the overall risk within the SDLC.
