The Northwestern Medical Center (NMC) Auxiliary Board of Directors and membership recently approved a $1,500 donation to the Jim Bashaw Cancer and Catastrophic Illness Fund.
The Bashaw Fund was established in memory of beloved teacher, guidance counselor and longtime BFA girls basketball coach Jim Bashaw. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor in February 2000 and fought bravely until his death on August 16 of the same year. Jim’s life and death impacted not only his family and friends, but the entire community. In his memory, a fund has been established to provide financial assistance to residents of Franklin County and Grand Isle County who are suffering from serious illness due to cancer or other causes.

Following a recommendation from the auxiliary’s board of directors, the auxiliary’s giving was the subject of discussion at the group’s membership meeting in February. The idea was born out of a fundraising effort by the Bashaw Foundation, with generous support from auxiliaries.
The auxiliary’s mission is to support Northwestern Medical Center through fundraising and community relations, and its members meet four times a year: September, November, February, and April.
New auxiliary members are always welcome. If you are interested in becoming a member or volunteering at your local community hospital, please contact the Northwestern Medical Center Auxiliary/Volunteer Office at 524-1055.
