A basket raffle and designer purse bingo will be held at Pleasant Valley Elementary School today at 2 p.m. in memory of a coach and community leader who passed away from colon cancer last year.
Tickets for bingo are sold out, but the basket raffle is still being held at the inaugural Designer Perth Bingo fundraiser in memory of Stephanie Fancook.
Brittany Angelica, one of the event organizers, said there will be more than 250 regular ticket baskets and 12 high-ticket item baskets available to the community.
Basket prizes include a massage, a lottery tree, cash, blowing up a giant waterslide, a week-long stay in a Myrtle Beach condo, Blackstone Grill, Kalahari tickets, and more.
Pleasant Valley Elementary School, where she was secretary, opens its doors Saturday at 2 p.m. The basket winner will be chosen around 6:30 p.m. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Stephanie Fan Cook Memorial Fund.
Stephanie’s husband, Matthew Fancook, said they have started a memorial fund to give back to the community in the form of scholarships.
“The community is what Stephanie represents, and she spent as much time as she could,” he said. “By providing grants for specific programs, we hope to support families in our communities who may not have enough income to enroll their children in youth programs.”
Along with her husband, Stephanie was active in West End Little League as a coach and team sponsor. She was also the Pleasant Valley Youth Association basketball and Cubs cheerleading coach.
“Stephanie Rose Fancook was a true pillar of this community and a one-of-a-kind person,” her husband said. “She would have been overwhelmed by the love she received from the community’s response and support. She probably couldn’t believe that her bingo tickets sold out within her 48 hours.”
Stephanie died in December at the age of 38, just eight months after being diagnosed with colon cancer. She leaves behind her loving husband and three young daughters, Alana Rose (12 years old), Avaline (7 years old), and Madeline (5 years old).
“Stephanie lived every day for her family and friends and always put others first,” Matthew Fancook said. “Stephanie had the biggest heart, the most beautiful smile, and the best laugh. Stephanie was infectious in every way. I was truly lucky to know Stephanie.”
