The U.S. House of Representatives on Friday passed 7th District Rep. Abigail Spanberger’s bill that would provide $637,195 to renovate the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at Fredericksburg Police Headquarters. Spanberger’s office said the funding will also provide security enhancements and equipment upgrades to prevent disruption of government operations at the EOC.
Spanberger received the investment as part of the fiscal year 2024 spending package passed by the House of Representatives, which will allow the city of Fredericksburg to upgrade security at its EOC and E-911 emergency communications center. The funding will enable the installation of new monitors and computer workstations to improve decision-making and access to records, files and electronic communications.
The funding will allow the city to install new consoles for dispatchers to manage increased calls and maintain the line with first responders during emergencies.
According to a press release from Congressman Spanberger’s office:

The City of Fredericksburg consistently pursues state and federal grant opportunities to offset the costs of our core infrastructure priorities. ” Fredericksburg Mayor Kelly P. Devine said. “We recently worked with the federal Economic Development Administration on Riverfront Park, winning a $1.2 million award. We also worked with the Commonwealth of Virginia on wastewater treatment facility upgrades, which resulted in three projects totaling $56 million. Mr. Spanberger worked directly with the City of Fredericksburg to ensure this project was included in this federal funding legislation. The fiscal year 2024 spending package now goes to the U.S. Senate for further consideration.
Earlier this month, Mr. Spanberger signed legislation securing more than $12.2 million for 14 community-based projects for infrastructure, transportation, public safety and accessibility needs in Virginia’s 7th District.
