Bank fraudsters raised money for George Latimer in race against Jamal Bowman

The convicted bank fraudster co-hosted a fundraiser last week for Westchester County Executive George Latimer, who is seeking to unseat Rep. Jamaal Bowman in the Democratic primary.

Michael S. Waxes has been named to the organizing committee for the Latimer Bash, which will be held March 20th at the Broadway Mansion in White Plains, Westchester.

Mr. Wax pleaded guilty in 1997 to bank fraud in an attempt to defraud Chase Bank of $20.8 million. He was fined $250,000 and banned from the securities industry.

Bowman, a progressive leftist who is seeking re-election for a third term, launched a fierce attack.

Bowman campaign spokesperson Lawrence Wang said, “What was originally a fundraiser hosted by George Latimer at the mansion of a Trump megadonor is now sponsored by a Wall Street conman who was blind and robbed. We are conducting fundraising activities to do so.”

Earlier this year, wealthy insurance mogul and Donald Trump supporter Alex Dubitsky held a fundraiser for Latimer at his home in Larchmont, Westchester.

“It shows you who George really thinks he’s working for,” Wang said. He said, “He won’t be running in the Democratic primary.”

Mr. Latimer’s campaign did not challenge or defend the conviction of Mr. Wax, the fraudster who co-hosted the fundraiser on his behalf.

Instead, he tried to return attention to Mr. Bowman. Bowman is a member of “The Squad,” a group of ultra-progressive Democrats in the House of Representatives that includes the provocative democratic socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Bowman has recently been the subject of a series of negative headlines due to his own words and actions.

“The simple fact is that nearly 75 percent of George Latimer’s donors are from the Bronx and Westchester, compared to just 9 percent of Mr. Bowman’s donors,” Latimer’s campaign said.

“Now that he has been arrested for praising known anti-Semites, promoting the baseless 9/11 truth conspiracy, accepting money from Trump donors, and most recently voting for a government shutdown, he We are desperately trying to change the situation.”

Mr. Bowman once argued that a mural of Minister Louis Farrakhan should remain in a New York City suburb, but Mr. Farrakhan has made derogatory comments about Jews, including calling them “the synagogue of the devil” and “termites.” He was notorious for doing so, and drew the ire of Jewish activists.

The 47-year-old lawmaker was a middle school principal in the Bronx before ousting longtime Congressman Eliot Engel in 2020.

When he was a school administrator, he maintained a blog claiming that World Trade Center Building 7 was destroyed by controlled demolition, not by a terrorist attack.

He is also being pursued by other controversies. These included pleading guilty to setting off a fire alarm at a Capitol office building before last year’s House vote, and pleading guilty to setting off a convicted cop killer and fugitive Joan Chesimard to a Bronx cornerstone building.・Includes defending his inclusion in the Academy for Social Action’s “Hall.” when he was the principal.

Mr. Latimer, 70, will face a significant challenge to Mr. Bowman on June 25 in the Democratic primary for the 16th Congressional District, which includes southern Westchester County and parts of the northern Bronx.

He has served in a variety of public offices since the 1980s, including the state House and Senate, and was elected county executive in 2017.
