DVIDS – News – Work continues to complete relocation of World War II-era barracks at Fort McCoy

In early 2023, four World War II-era barracks will be relocated from the 1600 block to other areas of the Cantonment Area in order to preserve the buildings for reuse in space on other city blocks. was created.

Contractors JMJ Construction of New Lisbon, Wis., and Heritage Movers of Blue River, Wis., successfully moved the first two of the four barracks on Feb. 24 and March 2. He then moved his last two buildings from the 1600 block to the 1600 block. April 4th and April 6th are 1800 blocks and 2800 blocks respectively.

Once the building was moved, it was placed on blocks and fenced off until further work was completed in the new area. Now, that work recently began this summer in early August with construction of a new foundation for the building, said Fort McCoy Directorate of Public Works (DPW) General Engineer Gareth Ferguson.

Ferguson said three buildings were on the foundation as of the end of December, with a fourth building expected to be completed soon.

The original contract price to relocate the four buildings and complete all work was approximately $1.7 million, DPW officials said.

According to DPW, the contract’s scope of work includes not only moving the building to its new location, but also site work such as constructing a new concrete foundation, installing a new furnace or water heater, installing utilities and completing grading and sidewalks.
