BROCKTON — A Brockton man has spent his life experimenting with new ideas, leading to a life of “serial entrepreneurship,” and he’s never looked back.
Rudy Alves never thought about becoming an employee.
Alves found a way to make money since he was 12 years old.
He would run to the corner store in the morning before going to school, carrying a backpack filled with sweet treats to sell at East Middle School. It all started from there.
Selling sweets wasn’t his only side job. I also burned CDs and sold them.
“Ever since I was a kid, I was always finding ways to make money. I was always busy finding the next project,” Alves said.

What is a serial entrepreneur?
A serial entrepreneur is someone who takes an idea and turns it into multiple businesses, providing multiple, stable sources of income.
Alves’ inspiration for this idea was watching an episode where the character SpongeBob is an entrepreneur who rolls around barrels filled with money and coins. When I was a kid, my brain told me that in order to make money, I had to become an entrepreneur.
That mindset has remained with him for many years, to this day.

Has his business ever failed?
Mr. Alves has tried more than 10 businesses over the past 20 years, many of which have failed, but for him failure can also be a blessing.
Alves’ motto is: “The only way to fail is by not trying.” He is proud that his four children watched him try some things and were not afraid to fail.
How his most successful business came about
To this day, his restaurant business, Karil’s Kitchen, named after his son, remains his most successful venture, but it took many tries to get there.
Alves spent the early days of the pandemic cooking at home and sharing food with friends and family, which led her to suggest the restaurant business to them. From there, Khalil’s Kitchen was born and has been open for three years.
What other businesses does he own?
This serial entrepreneur runs two other businesses. Logan’s Kennel, a dog breeding business. and Alves Development in the construction industry.
His tips for starting a business
Running these businesses hasn’t been easy, but Alves is fortunate to have support from his family to keep each business running smoothly.
Alves’ main tips for starting a business are to do research, study the market, obtain the proper permits and licenses, create an attractive website, and use social media to your advantage in marketing.
