Baltimore patrol officer non-fatally shoots naked man who had barricaded himself in a business.

BALTIMORE (WBFF) — In an unexpected turn of events, an officer encountered a naked man on West Platte Street, Baltimore Police Chief Richard Worley said in a press conference Saturday. during a routine patrol that escalated into a standoff that ended in non-fatal gunfire.

Officers patrolling the 2000 block of West Platte Street around 9 a.m. spotted a naked man walking in the street and urged them to approach him, Worley said.

When the man approached the person, he ran into a back room of the business and barricaded himself there. Despite repeated attempts to lure the man out, officers entered to speak with him when he threw an “unidentified” liquid at them. The police withdrew and secured an underground bunker.

During the second attempt, the individual charged officers with two knives, causing them to retreat. One police officer suffered cuts to his face during the collision. Chief Worley said the man then said he had been shot in the leg.

“While he was in custody, he was still reaching for his weapon, and officers helped him and placed a tourniquet on his leg, which probably saved his life,” Chief Worley said. Told. The suspect is currently in stable condition at a local hospital.

Worley said the Baltimore Police Department has activated its serious incident reporting policy and is actively investigating the matter. He stressed the importance of body-worn camera footage, saying he believed it would highlight the severity of the crash and demonstrate the commendable efforts of officers.

“Once you look at the body-worn cameras, you can see how intense it was and our officers not only again attempted to disarm the individual, but also performed aid and relief operations when he was injured. “You can see what a great job they did in that way, saving his life,” Worley said. “While this is still an open and active investigation, I would like to commend the officers for their work every day.
