GOTHENBURG, Sweden – Rodwin Dionisio scored twice and Switzerland defeated Norway 6-2 on Saturday at the World Junior Hockey Championship to advance to the quarterfinals.
Dionisio, selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the fifth round of this year’s NHL Draft, is a 19-year-old defenseman who plays for the Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League.
Simon Mayer, Leo Braillard, Jonas Teibel and Thierry Schild also scored for Switzerland, while Alessio Beglieri made 19 saves. Switzerland has 1 win and 2 losses in Group B, with Sunday’s match against the Czech Republic (1 win, 1 loss, 1 draw).
Martin Johnsen and Patrick Dalen scored for Norway (0-4). The team will play a relegation game on Thursday.
In Group A, Sandis Vilmanis had two goals and one assist as Latvia defeated Germany 6-2.
Eriks Matejko, Rodgers Bukarc, Peteris Bruns and Reiners Dalgins also scored for Latvia, which lost its first three games in shutouts. Samuel Schindler and Norwin Panoka scored for Germany (1-2).
On Sunday, the United States and Slovakia, both undefeated in three games, will play for first place in Group B. The United States defeated the Czech Republic 4-3 in a penalty shootout on Friday.
In Group A, hosts Sweden (3-0) will play Finland (1-2), while Canada (2-1) will face Germany. Sweden defeated Canada 2-0 on Friday.
