creative. passionate. Symbolic. These are just a few words to describe Katy Perry. When you hear her name, you probably think of songs like “California Girls” and “Teenage Dream.” The Santa Barbara native has collaborated with major artists such as Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, and Juicy J. However, her talents extend far beyond the recording studio. A few years ago, she co-founded her De Soi, a line of carefully selected aperitifs. Perry was inspired to help found Des Sois because she was pregnant and wanted a refreshing drink that didn’t contain alcohol.
“I was pregnant and looking for an alternative. I remember being on a long flight and I wanted to have a glass of champagne. I couldn’t eat because I was pregnant. They told me They gave me non-alcoholic champagne and it was a perfect fit,” she said. “That’s what sparked my interest. I co-founded [De Soi] With Morgan McLachlan. She is our lead taster. She is our alchemist. She is the one who understands all adaptogens. We got her and the recipe right,” Perry said.
In this dry January, it might be a good time to reconsider your relationship with alcohol. You can find non-alcoholic beer, wine, and aperitifs at your local grocery store. De Soi can be found in stores like Target, Whole Foods, and Sprouts, which is a testament to the brand’s success. Grammy-nominated artist and De Soi co-founder Katy Perry tells me the three things he believes will make a successful business.
Building a brand driven by personal passion
It is not a good idea to start a business solely for profit. Founders need to be passionate about selling products, forming partnerships, and everything that comes with building a business. If you look at respected innovators like Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, they have something in common. They have a deep passion for the products they make and sell.
“I want to be synonymous with uplifting things. I’m happy that my musical message carries that feeling. I created it [De Soi] “It’s about being able to create rituals that bring balance to your life and support your lifestyle,” Perry told me. “My personal passion drives branding. I went into it wholeheartedly because it was what I needed.”
It is important to create a business that meets the needs of consumers. There are currently dozens, if not hundreds, of alcohol-free brands. Looking back at 2020, non-alcoholic beverages were just starting to catch on. Perry created a product that had a need. This is a great way to run a successful business.
Innovative product development through strategic collaboration
Creating unique products and working with partners to sell those products is a big part of running a business. By working well with others, you can enhance your business and its reputation. If you and your brand are well-received, they are more likely to partner with you. For De Soi, the company focuses on strategic collaboration.
“We work with a variety of retail stores. Target created a non-alcoholic section and we ended up being one of their choices, which was great. Really. We’re grateful. We’re glad they carved out that space for their customers,” Perry said. She attributes part of the brand’s success to its focus on innovation.
“I like to learn about new innovations. I was really interested in meat alternatives. I invested in Impossible Foods when it first came out, before Beyond came out. I want to help the future of the world. I love innovative technology.”
Creative artistry in branding and promotion
This is one of the most important parts of running a successful business. From Instagram ads to billboards to brand logos, your product needs to stand out. Many non-alcoholic brands have cans and bottles with unique colors and eye-catching patterns. Without a creative touch, branding and promotion can easily be ignored. Perry said creativity when promoting De Soi products comes naturally to her as an artist.
“Artists are inherently creative and it’s like a faucet that keeps dripping. It never really goes away and you can learn how to channel it into different things. Music has always been in my root system. Yes, it’s the whole trunk, but I have different branches,” she said. Perry co-founded De Soi to provide a healthier, hangover-free alternative to alcohol.
“Staying healthy and taking care of your body will help you achieve all your ambitions. It’s great to have options at our fingertips to create a similar experience. We’re becoming more aware and more knowledgeable about what to put into the. I think we’re using that knowledge to our advantage,” Perry told me. “There’s a lot of education now about what we put into our bodies. There’s even more awareness. There’s a lot of ambition. People want to do more with their lives. I think about it. And if I don’t have health, I don’t have anything,” she said.
