Sports fans are enjoying the new year at home with the chance to watch top college football teams compete in bowl games. But two of these bowls have major implications for the national championship. The Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl will feature four teams competing for two spots in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. It will be held on Monday, January 8th.
One of the teams playing in the Rose Bowl is the No. 1 Michigan Wolverines. They finished the regular season with a 13-0 record and won the Big Ten Championship for the third consecutive season. Given that the University of Michigan is the top team in the nation, all eyes will be on some of the top players and when they declare for the NFL Draft.
The Wolverines are a run-heavy offense, and the biggest star on that side of the line of scrimmage is running back Blake Collum. Last year, Colm did not declare for the draft in order to return to Michigan for one more season. Now, Colm could be one of the top running back prospects in the 2024 class.
Here are five teams that should select Colm in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Let’s start with the Las Vegas Raiders, a team that may need a new starting pitcher in 2024.
This offseason, the Raiders were in the midst of messy contract negotiations with star forward Josh Jacobs, which resulted in him missing most of training camp. The Raiders placed the franchise tag on Jacobs, but Jacobs did not sign it. The two sides were unable to reach an agreement on a long-term extension by the July 17 deadline, resulting in Jacobs missing most of training camp. Ultimately, the two sides agreed to a $12 million deal for the 2023 season.
Jacobs played in 13 games this season and had 233 carries for 805 yards and six touchdowns.
This coming offseason, the Raiders will have to decide who will be their new general manager and head coach starting in 2024 after owner Mark Davis fired Dave Ziegler and Josh McDaniels. . Champ Bailey and Antonio Pierce are suing this season, but it’s unclear whether Davis will choose to keep them. Otherwise, another administration could scrutinize the list and rearrange it to suit its own preferences.
As evidenced this past offseason, teams were nervous about giving him a long-term, lucrative contract extension. Based on that logic, teams choose to use draft picks on top running backs from college. Colm fits the bill perfectly and would be a good option for a team in need of a back.
