A world record for the most types of cheese on a pizza was recently broken.
Do you like lots of cheese on your pizza? If you like variety as well as quantity, you’ll be happy to know about a unique pizza that recently broke the Guinness World Records (GWR). Instead of 10 or 100 types, we topped it with 1001 types of cheese. This amazing treat was created by French pizza chefs Benoît Bruel and Fabien Montellanico. Their efforts were supported by cheesemaker Sophie Hatat Richert Luna and YouTuber Florian Onair. The world record holder for the most types of cheese on a pizza is Morgan Niket, who topped it with 834 types of cheese in 2021.

Ever wonder how the team was able to keep the pizza intact? Benoit revealed that the pizza dough was pre-cooked to withstand the weight of the toppings. First put the hard cheese on the base, then the soft cheese on top. Each type was represented by a cube of 2 grams. Additionally, GWR explained, “We placed cookie cutters around the pile of cheese to hold it together during cooking.” After 2 minutes, I removed the cutter and baked the pizza for another 20 seconds.

“It was a real accomplishment to not only go to a farm to meet producers who are passionate about their profession, but also to be a part of the cheese artisans,” Benoit told GWR. According to the official website, 940 of the cheeses used in the pizza are from France, and the remaining 61 are from other countries. This is not the first time Benoit has been involved in setting this particular record. Back in 2020, he was making pizzas topped with 254 types of cheese. According to GWR, his new record is partly the result of him “spending five months scouring France for more varieties of cheese.”
