Rocket Companies is hiring a former Airbnb and Coca-Cola executive as its first chief marketing officer.
The Detroit-based parent company of Rocket Mortgage, title insurance company Amrock and Rocket Money announced Thursday that Jonathan Mildenhall will assume the role effective Jan. 8. He said he will “work to create a unified and compelling voice for all of Rocket Companies’ businesses.” He will have all marketing and communications teams for the company’s brands reporting directly to him,” the news release states.
The hiring comes as mortgage lenders are under tremendous pressure from rising interest rates, but the market could become more active after the Federal Reserve signaled in December that it would complete its rate hikes.

Rocket Mortgage itself has long been known as a marketing powerhouse. Currently, the company’s marketing team, led by Casey Herbis, partners with sports franchises, sponsors professional golf tournaments, and produces high-profile Super Bowl commercials.
Enter Mildenhall, who has over 30 years of experience in building and promoting brands. From 2007 to his 2014, he worked for Koch Corporation. As his Vice President of Excellence in Global Advertising Strategy and Content, he developed the “Open Happiness” campaign and propelled the Atlanta company’s most profitable period of growth in his 20 years. He was named Creative Marketer of the Year at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
He then served as the first chief marketing office for the now well-known short-term rental company, Airbnb, as it expanded from 400,000 to 4.5 million units. In 2018, he co-founded TwentyFirstCenturyBrand, a branding and marketing consultancy that has worked with Pinterest, LinkedIn, Zalando, PepsiCo, NextDoor, and Walmart.
Mr Mildenhall will remain chairman. He is also on the board of his GoFundMe and Fanatics Inc. He was featured on Forbes magazine’s list of the world’s most influential CMOs, Business Insider’s list of the most innovative he CMOs, and in 2016 he was named to Adweek’s list of most innovative CMOs in the hospitality sector. Received the Brand Genius Award.
