Production of the open-top version of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class was discontinued in 2014, and this body style was not offered in the current W463-II generation. And Mercedes-Benz has never produced a two-door G-Class AMG Cabriolet, reports Drom.ru. But Ahmed Al Bakri, a German entrepreneur of Arab descent, is determined to fill this gap.
The idea to create a cabriolet based on the Mercedes-Benz W463 came to me when I was stuck in traffic in a G Brabus that I had built for my son, and the latter suggested: “Baba, why don’t we make this in software?” So it opens at the top and has a little door so I can get in and out? ”
The entrepreneur made the Mercedes-AMG G63 W463-II an open-air model by equipping it with a regular W463 convertible as standard. The recognizable body shape is the same, with standard wing doors and a triangular window behind them. But there is one notable difference in the German entrepreneur’s work. It’s a backdoor that opens to traffic. True, they are narrow. Only small dogs can enter the cabin through such a door.
A wealthy Middle Eastern entrepreneur friend of the author liked the car so much that the idea was commercialized. Al Bakri eventually built 20 of these cabriolets through his company, Refined Marques, and sold them for at least $1.3 million each. This success story was told by his Motor1.
