Cape Town (AFP) – India captain Rohit Sharma said his team showed their ability to play anywhere in the world with a seven-wicket win over South Africa within two days in the second Test at Newlands on Thursday.

India bounced back from an innings defeat in the first Test at Centurion, chasing a target of 79 in the hour after lunch and sealing the two-match series despite a stunning century from home batsman Aiden Markram. We shared.
The victory was set up by man of the match Mohammed Siraj, who took six for 15 in the first innings, with South Africa trailing by 55 runs before lunch on the first day.
Apart from Markram, who had 106 hits off 176 balls in South Africa’s second innings, the batsmen struggled throughout the match on a pitch that had uneven pace, seam movement and bounce.
“Despite tough conditions for the batsmen, the bowlers still had to get the ball in the right areas,” Sharma said.
“We batted well and got a 100-run lead. We knew it was going to be a short game so every score was important. Getting that lead was very important for us. ”
“It’s always difficult to come to this part of the world, but in the last four or five years we’ve become a very good traveling team.
“Coming here and winning like this gives us a lot of confidence that we can perform in any situation.”
Dean Elgar, who was South Africa’s stand-in captain in his final match before retiring from international cricket, admitted after winning the toss that the hosts had misread the pitch when deciding who would bat first.
Elgar, who was named player of the series along with Jasprit Bumrah, said: “It looked really great to the naked eye, but the performance was completely different from what everyone expected.”
“It was tough for us.
“We were pretty positive going into this game.
“We died with the bat in the first innings. India brought that intensity and took advantage of the conditions brilliantly.”
While 23 wickets fell on the first day, the second morning was a battle between Markram and Bumrah.
The Indian bowlers took six for 61, but were denied the wicket of Markram for 71 when the batsman edged a drive and wicketkeeper KL Rahul failed to hold the catch over his head.
Markram took on the challenge of bowling, scoring 46 runs in India’s first innings, the second-highest individual score after Virat Kohli.
The next best mark among Markram’s teammates in either innings was 15.
Markram hit 17 quads and two sixes, one of which came off the ground off Prasidh Krishna, went over square leg and onto the tracks.
The 29-year-old was eventually caught attempting another big shot by Indian captain Rohit Sharma off Siraj at mid-off.
