Hagerstown, Maryland (DC News Now) — What started as a hobby and passion for video games has become a business venture with great potential for a young Hagerstown man.
Breyon Hopkins asked himself how he could make a living doing it.
He developed the business plan for Never Bored Games at Hagerstown Community College Entrepreneurial Research Center.
“I won the David Fletcher Incubator Program pitch contest,” Hopkins said. “They gave me a mentor for a full year and an office to develop a business plan.”
With the help of a grant from the city of Hagerstown, Hopkins set up shop for his business in a vacant storefront at 39 North Potomac Street downtown.
“The city will pay the rent for the first year,” said Ashley Bridell, who helps with the Hopkins business.
Meanwhile, Hopkins’ business coach at community college cracked the whip.
“I asked him, ‘What’s going on? “He was like, ‘I’m posting it on social media.’ So I’m like, “What else?!” Justina Shaw exclaimed at community college.
The show took Hopkins’ adventures to a higher level.
“We worked on all of these things, just reimagining what our sales strategy should be, our marketing strategy, how we package things, how we understand our customers,” Shaw said.
The show matched Hopkins with a prominent local business leader who would mentor him.
“Every time Mr. Breyon met with them, he did what they told him to do,” he said.
Shaw has no doubt that Hopkins has what it takes to succeed in business.
As for Hopkins, he hopes his Hagerstown store will be the first of several to open in the DMV area.
