COLUMBIA — The South Carolina Department of Agriculture’s Agribusiness Center for Research and Entrepreneurship is accepting applications for the 2024 Advanced Entrepreneurship Program through March 8.
South Carolina entrepreneurs selected for the program will have the opportunity to pitch to a panel of judges and compete for business mentorship and agribusiness funding.
Winners will receive up to $25,000 for their company or product.
In the seven years since its founding, the Center for Agribusiness Research and Entrepreneurship (ACRE) has awarded more than $1 million to 100 agricultural entrepreneurs, funded several industry-driven research projects, and He has led dozens of business workshops.
“Each year, ACRE continues to discover new entrepreneurial talent in South Carolina’s agribusiness world, a testament to our state’s talent, drive and vision,” said Agriculture Secretary Hugh Weathers. Ta. “We look forward to a competitive new group taking to the field in 2024.”

Previous winners include Crescent Farms, a women-owned vegetable grower in Lawrence County who used ACRE funding to expand production. Vital Mission Farm, a regenerative agriculture-based duck producer on Wadmalaw Island; Starr’s Milky Way Farm has purchased her second robotic milking system. Project Victory Gardens leads workshops to help veterans transition into careers in agribusiness.
Advanced entrepreneurship applications require a business plan and a ready-to-launch prototype or sales history of the applicant’s company or product.
The applicant’s place of business must be located in South Carolina. The application also includes a detailed guide to what ACRE looks for in a business plan.
ACRE offers a separate program each fall for beginning innovators who have an agribusiness idea but no business experience.
