Acworth, Georgia – What do you do when you throw a big party and no one shows up? That’s what happened when Acworth owners held their 10th anniversary celebration. She blames the Postal Service for the no-shows.
Rhonda Brummett, owner of Celestial Jewelers, said, “It’s been 10 years since we’ve been in Acworth, so we were very excited. We had food, drinks, decorations, and we had big presents.” .
Brummett said the store held its 9th anniversary party last year. She said hundreds of people showed up, the store made tens of thousands of dollars in sales, and she expected this year to be even better.
Brummett said she spent about $1,000 preparing for the 10th anniversary celebration and mailed 1,000 promotional cards to customers.
But she says no one knew about the party because no one received an invitation.
“I was very disappointed. I reached out to a lot of customers and they didn’t know anything,” Brummett said.
Brummett believes those invitations are somewhere along with other mail that is missing due to problems at the Atlanta GA processing and distribution center in Palmetto. It’s a facility built to streamline processes.
USPS updates Atlanta mail delays
FOX 5 reached out to the U.S. Postal Service for an update on the issue.
A USPS spokesperson sent the following statement:
“As we continue to make significant investments in the Atlanta area, including new sorting machines, equipment upgrades, and more efficient transportation, we are improving our operations and ensuring our organization is reliable for years to come. It helps us to provide high-quality delivery services.”
As a small business owner, Brummett doesn’t have a large advertising budget, so he relies on his email system as the best way to spread the word about special promotions.
“We have over 12,000 people in our database. You can’t just pick up the phone and make a call,” Brummett said.
She says she knows other small businesses are in the same situation.
“Many other companies are going to suffer because they can’t get information out,” Brummett said.
