ALEXANDRIA — A new finance class available at Alexandria Technical and Community College will focus on consumer economics and finance.
Alexandria University is piloting this community-friendly course as an evening class, said Nicole Abar, Alexandria University’s director of marketing and communications. “This is a personal finance class that helps students understand financial economics and how it affects them,” she said, adding that the content includes asset acquisition, investing, budgeting, and retirement. The out-of-pocket cost for the course is approximately $600. However, the course is free to eligible Douglas County residents, according to the university’s website.

This course will run from 5pm to 8:55pm on Wednesday evenings, starting on Wednesday 8th January and ending on Wednesday 26th March.
This course is designed to meet the needs of adults of all ages from all walks of life. The instructor is Kelly Hughes.
According to course information on Alexandria University’s website, after completing the course, students will understand the financial products used in the modern economy, create a framework for lifelong financial planning, and learn about key consumer financial decisions. Throughout the semester, students create a complete financial plan customized to their needs and circumstances, and also learn about asset acquisition, risk management, investment and retirement planning, and budgeting.
