A longtime Cornelius entrepreneurial couple is building a large pickleball-focused entertainment complex along Interstate 77 in Lake Norman that includes indoor and outdoor courts, a restaurant, bars, lounges and space for community events. We are planning to build a facility.
Saab Pickleball and Kitchen will include 10 indoor courts and six outdoor courts, according to project details released by the town on Friday.
Charlotte Observer news partner WSOC reported that a Top Golf simulator is also planned.
Developers Jack and Robin Salzman became owners of the Lake Norman Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in 2003 on Interstate 77 at Exit 28 in Cornelius. The proposed pickleball complex is south of the exit along the interstate.
The Salzmans intend to explain the details of their plan at a Cornelius Commission meeting scheduled for Monday at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 21445 Catawba Avenue.
Commissioners will also receive public comments on the project during the meeting.
The 51,000-square-foot complex will be built on 6.3 acres of vacant land at 20220 Chartown Drive.
The property is owned by the couple’s Cornelius-based DB Automotive Real Estate Holdings LLC, according to city documents.
The project is “very focused on creating a great opportunity for people in pickleball to have something they can’t find anywhere else in North Carolina.” Lawrence Shaheen Junior, the project’s attorney, told WSOC.
Mooresville-based Spectrum Building Company is the general contractor for the project, Shaheen told the Charlotte Observer on Saturday.
