About the role
role
With more than $140 billion invested in healthcare and more than 50 portfolio managers, this industry team represents Wellington’s flagship franchise. The extensive medical team includes more than 20 of his colleagues across the public and private markets. Wellington currently manages around $1 billion across its Hawke’s Bay, North River and Salthill healthcare hedge funds. We are seeking an Analyst, Healthcare Hedge Fund (Analyst) to work directly with the Healthcare Team’s leadership on long/short strategies managed within the franchise. The primary focus will be on healthcare hedge funds, with synergies extending to other healthcare sector funds and sleeves as well.
Key responsibilities include:
• portfolio analysis: Monitor the overall positioning and exposure of healthcare hedge funds, key positions and risk factors. Create regular internal emails summarizing these features, key sector and macro trends, and recent trades.
• investment research: Uncovers new long-short ideas and explores existing holdings, primarily non-biotech (medtech, healthcare services, large-cap biopharma, etc.).
• Engagement with the team: Collaborate with global industry analysts and healthcare team leaders on stock ideas and themes. Translate research insights into portfolio recommendations. Catalyst monitoring.
Required skills
• Investment acumen and passion – Analysts have experience analyzing stocks in healthcare or other industries and have a strong interest in healthcare. Must have the ability to identify incorrect pricing and valuation discrepancies, recommend investments, and communicate results to team leader/global industry analyst. The ideal candidate has a track record of success in stock recommendations and is passionate about the markets. Additionally, analysts must demonstrate a fundamental, research-oriented, bottom-up approach, supported by an investment philosophy and process, and be able to execute ideas through an analytical framework. Experience building and maintaining detailed technical financial models is required.
• Great collaboration and influencing skills – The successful candidate will be energized by becoming an individual contributor within a highly collaborative team and embracing the benefits of the company’s coverage and overlapping lines of idea generation. Analysts develop strong relationships of trust internally with their colleagues and externally with the company’s management team. qualification
Additional qualifications and characteristics include:
• Aspiring equity research/hedge fund analyst looking to actively develop a career as a healthcare investor.
• At least 2 years of relevant experience in an analytical role within a financial or professional services organization.
• Long/short buy-side investment experience strongly preferred.
• Service-oriented with a fiduciary and customer-centric mindset.
• Pro-technological mindset and ability to leverage technology to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
• Working knowledge of programming languages (e.g. SQL, Python, R, MATLAB) and data analysis/visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Qlik) in the context of financial markets is additive.
• Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
• Independence of thought, intellectual curiosity, and entrepreneurial spirit.
• The highest personal and professional integrity and ethics.
• History of professional accomplishments.

We strive to pay our employees fairly and competitively across all levels and roles. Our approach to compensation considers all aspects of total compensation. All employees are eligible to receive a salary, variable compensation, and benefits. The base salary range for this position is as follows:
$80,000 to $180,000
This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered when determining compensation. This includes, but is not limited to, skillsets. Role; Skills and Experience. certification; and education. This range is an estimate and salary and total compensation details will be shared with candidates during the recruitment process.
Base salary is just one element of Wellington’s total compensation approach. Other compensation may include optional company bonuses and incentives, if eligible.
