NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Missing out on the playoffs again this season has heightened dissatisfaction among Saints fans to a new level, with many, including Ryne Hancock, calling for head coach Dennis Allen to be fired. .
To make sure fans’ voices are heard, Hancock and a friend began raising money through GoFundMe on January 8th for a “Dennis Allen Fire” sign to be installed on Earhart Boulevard.
“When you’re angry about something, you do everything in your power to demand change. Apathy means you don’t care. Anger means you care,” says Hancock. said.
In just a few days, the billboard almost reached its goal. Hancock then began putting his plan into action.
That’s when advertising companies decided to raise prices to unattainable amounts, he said.
“All of a sudden, the money was gone from what we had raised. Within two days we had the money, and then it went up to another and we were like, ‘Damn!’ We’re going to give everyone their money back,” Hancock said.
But soon after, an anonymous donor contacted him and said he would fully fund a new billboard project, this time with Lamar Advertising.
“I can’t thank them enough because they decided to do it with me. I didn’t know there was a money fairy in New Orleans. They didn’t,” Hancock said.
Hancock said he expects things to speed up even further, but he will stop at nothing to get his message across to the Saints organization.
“I stand for business. I stand by my beliefs, so if someone has a problem with that, it’s not hard to find me,” Hancock said.
