Southwestern Elementary School welcomed community members Friday to its 17th annual Third Grade Multicultural Fair.
The event, held on Friday morning, began with some children singing songs titled “Hello To All The Children Of The World” and “There’s Love For Me And You.” After the sing-along, attendees were able to walk around the room and see all of the different countries where her third-year students at the school spent a lot of time researching and doing projects.
The countries participating in the multicultural fair are: Ireland, Chile, Sweden, Thailand, Brazil, Japan, Kenya, Spain, Mexico, Greece, India, South Africa, Argentina, China, France, Italy. In addition to sharing information, the students also handed out food samples from each country.
At the South Africa table, Presley Darnell said she loved learning about different aspects of South Africa because the teachers chose the countries.
“It was really fun getting to know all the different animals,” Darnell said.
Presley Darnell and Ella Bernard both learned about South Africa as they participated in Southwestern Elementary School’s third-grade multicultural fair on Friday.
Also at the South African table, Ella Bernard agreed with Darnell, saying the research aspect of both the project and the exhibition was her favorite part.
“I like learning about different countries,” Bernard said.
Ellie Rodestro was a member of the China table and said her favorite part was learning about the Forbidden City. She added that her favorite part of participating in the multicultural fair is being able to meet all the people who came and tell them about China.
Avery Kier was part of a group that learned about Japan. Her favorite part was learning about her food and Mount Fuji, which she calls “the symbol of Japan’s cool.” She likes seeing everyone come together at the fair, she added.
“My favorite part is seeing everyone here and hearing stories from all different countries,” Kia said.
Ellie Rodestro, a member of a group learning about China, also handed out cookies at the fair.
Delanne Stewart, Alexa Clarke and Scarlett Dubois were all part of the Indian table. They all agreed that the best part was learning about the country, what they do there, and creating exhibits and projects.
“I’m glad our family came to see the project today,” Dubois said. “It’s fun to dress up.”
Southwestern Elementary School Principal Caitlin Ring thanked the third grade class for their hard work and everyone who participated in the event.
“We are so proud of these kids,” Ring said. “This is a lot of work, so I would like to thank all of her third grade team for working on this. I would also like to thank her family for taking time out of their busy days to come out and celebrate their hard work. I would also like to thank you.”
