President Joe Biden made his 21st visit to Pennsylvania on Friday, proclaiming the success of “Bidenomics” and his plans to invest in the United States. This is also his second visit to the Lehigh Valley, the first being in 2021 when he visited the Mack Trucks plant in Macungie.
During the trip, Biden promoted a “Made in America” cause, pledging to invest in domestic businesses and jobs.
“If you give American workers just a chance, a chance to fight, there’s nothing they won’t do,” he said at the time.
Two years later, Biden is filing the Lehigh Valley lawsuit, claiming victory and claiming his U.S. investment plans are paying off.
Air Force One landed at Lehigh Valley International Airport just after 1 p.m. Friday. The president was greeted by Sen. Bob Casey, Gov. Josh Shapiro, Allentown Mayor Matthew Turk and others.
Mr. Biden and his entourage immediately piled into a waiting motorcade and drove directly to Allentown and the small neighboring town of Emmaus, via Interstate 78 and other closed major highways. Hundreds of supporters and other observers lined the streets of Emmaus as the president arrived in the city. At times, protesters could be seen holding their thumbs or yelling for Biden to “go home.”
Downtown, we visited several small businesses, including Emmaus Run Inn, a running store that sells sneakers. South Mountain Bicycle; and Nowhere Coffee. At each store, Biden exchanged jokes and small talk with the owners in an amiable campaign style.
“I’m Joe Biden, and I work in the government and the Senate,” he said as he entered Nowhere Coffee. So the president chose a smoothie over coffee and paid in cash. Governor Shapiro then began introducing him to other local business owners who were strategically placed at tables who had been waiting for at least an hour for a chance to meet with the president.
The White House has cited 16 million new business applications, including a record 5.5 million last year, as evidence that the economy has improved since the pandemic and the previous administration.
After his Emmaus business tour, Biden stopped at the Allentown fire station to drop off coffee and pastries he received from Nowhere Coffee.
Biden’s series of visits reflects the importance Pennsylvania plays in the presidential election. Biden will likely need 20 federal electors if he wants to win in November.
