Bill Gates, the world’s fourth richest person, wants the super rich to pay more taxes

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates said he wants the ultra-wealthy to pay more taxes, even though he said on Reddit’s “Ask Me Anything” forum that taxes on the wealthy would not be raised any further. This was one year after he made the statement expressing surprise that he had not. Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Gates said the richest countries should give more money to developing countries to reduce inequality. More than 250 ultra-wealthy individuals have signed an open letter calling on world leaders to impose a wealth tax, Business Insider reports. Gates, who is currently the fourth richest person on the planet according to the Bloomberg Index, said the wealthiest countries, companies and individuals should be encouraged to be more generous. The open letter, signed by Abigail Disney and Succession actor Brian Cox, calls on world leaders to impose more taxes, saying that taxing the super-rich deprives them of their children and deprives them of their livelihoods. He added that it would not change the standard.

The letter warns of a dramatic increase in economic inequality and calls on the elected representatives of the world’s major economies to take steps to address this problem, and if they do not “The consequences will continue to be devastating for society.”

Alongside the open letter, a report was published by Oxfam, Patriotic Millionaires, British Patriotic Millionaires, Millionaires for Humanity and Tax Me Now. In his memo, Disney wrote that it was “a mistake” to travel alone from California to New York on his family’s Boeing 737.

Abigail Disney also said she has now given up flying privately and is adjusting her routes to protect the environment. The Disney heir also blamed the wealthy 1 percent for contributing to climate change with their “private jets,” gas-guzzling hot rods, superyachts, helicopters, and private space rockets.
