Publicly traded hedge fund Man Group is making some changes to its portfolio engineering team. The company was previously run by Eva Sánchez Martin, who joined the company as a graduate student quantitative analyst in 2016, but a new leader, a former BlackRock director, has been appointed.

Pedro Videira e Castro has joined Man Group as MD and Head of Portfolio Engineering in London. Like Mr. Sanchez, he appears to be staying with the company, but he has worked for one company so far. He joined BlackRock in his 2011 year and has since been promoted to Director of Risk and Quantitative Analysis.
Interestingly, Mr. Castro does not have a very technical background. He is a student of financial economics (Sanchez holds a degree in mathematics from Oxford) and has deep expertise in ‘customer engagement’ and ‘talent development’ in his role at BlackRock. It states that A five-month-old job listing appears to call for “extensive” programming experience in Python or R for this role, so it’s likely that you’ve honed your technical skills over the past 10 years.
Meanwhile, BlackRock is hiring businessmen for its technology platform, Aladdin. In January, Aladdin hired Katie Sessions as MD of wealthtech business development and head of the Americas. She has worked at her fintech company InvestCloud for the past seven years, but has experience in equity sales at Jefferies and her at HSBC.
