The Highland-Griffith Chamber of Commerce will start in 2024 with new leadership and officers on its board, according to a release. New board members include Bryce Carden of Members Source Credit Union and Benjamin Tomera of Tomera Media Production.

The officers of the Board of Directors will also be replaced in the new fiscal year. Dan Perez of Edward Jones will become Chairman of the Board, replacing Anne Collanese of the ATA region. Other 2024 board officers include First Financial Bank vice chair Susan Stamis, Humane Indiana’s Jane Powers Cesar as secretary and Fairhaven Indiana’s Treasurer, according to the release. They include Rebecca Alvarez of the Rape Crisis Center. Executive Director Lance Reiskamp will be entering his second full year in his new role as Chamber President and CEO.

Northwest Health Porter recently announced Makenzie Marx as the recipient of the DAISY Award for Nursing Excellence and patient care technician Amber Jordan as the recipient of the PETALS Award for Outstanding Support Professionals. The award was given in a release.

According to the release, Marx received a collection of glowing recommendations from patients and their families. According to the release, Mr. Jordan was nominated by grateful colleagues who share that he is one of the best aides he has ever worked with.

The DAISY Award recognition celebrates the great work nurses do every day, regardless of where they practice and the roles they play throughout their careers, the release states. The PETALS Award recognizes the outstanding skills and support of non-nursing professionals.

Three professionals were recently hired as staff accountants at Michigan City CPA CLH & Consultants.

Jordan Sheets, Victor Hernandez and Ryan Setner recently joined the company, according to the release. In their new roles, the three will work with clients on a wide range of tasks, including tax preparation and planning, corporate accounting and a variety of other accounting services provided by CLH, according to the release.

Jordan Sheets graduated magna cum laude from Valparaiso University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Victor Hernandez joined CLH in 2023 after completing an internship and graduating from Purdue University Northwest (PNW) with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Ryan Zenner will join CLH in 2023. He received his undergraduate degree from Purdue Northwest University and is currently enrolled in the graduate program.

Applications to the Porter County Citizens Advisory Committee are now open, according to the release.

Each year, the Porter County Recycling and Waste Reduction District Board appoints seven citizens to serve on the Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) at its first meeting of the year.

The CAC plays an important role in providing recommendations and feedback to board members on waste reduction, recycling services, sustainability initiatives, educational events, and a variety of other topics. Porter County residents involved in the solid waste industry and individuals with a passion for making a positive impact on the environment are encouraged to submit applications, according to the release.

Interested applicants must fill out a short form that includes their educational and work history. This form can be accessed at PorterCountyRecycling.org. All six Indiana Franciscan Health Family Birth Center facilities received the INspire Hospital of Distinction Award from the Indiana Hospital Association in partnership with Gov. Eric Holcomb and Indiana State Health Commissioner Dr. Lindsay Weaver, according to a release. It is said that he received the award.

Family birth centers in Crown Point, Dyer, Indianapolis, Lafayette, Michigan City and Mooresville all received this honor, according to the release.

INspire, funded by the Indiana State Department of Health’s Indiana Newborn Safety Protection (Safety PIN) grant, implements best practice care delivery for Hoosier mothers and infants and addresses key factors in infant and maternal health. It was developed to recognize outstanding hospitals. The release said:
