PITTSBURGH — Highmark First Night Pittsburgh is expected to ring in with tens of thousands of people flocking to downtown Pittsburgh in 2024.
Mike Skich, owner of Mike’s Beer Bar on the North Shore, said he’s ready for crowds.
“We’re adding staff,” he said. “The restaurant next door has the best bookings of the year, so we know it will eventually trickle down here at Barside.”
“It’s usually pretty busy here, but having the option of people parking on both sides of the bridge and being able to use it for celebrations will definitely bring a little more business to the North Shore,” he said. Said.
Sukitch also owns the North Shore Tavern and said reservations are booked solid until 5pm Sunday night. He said it will be even better for business as the Clemente Bridge will also reopen Sunday night for the first time in nearly two years.
On the other side of the bridge, in the cultural district, Con Alma is also expected to attract even more visitors this New Year’s Eve.
“Paul Consantino and the Boilermakers will be playing here all night long,” said co-owner and music curator John Shannon. “We have a bar and we have a full menu on a first-come, first-served basis. It’s going to be a very exciting night.”
Shannon said it feels like this year’s First Night celebration is in full swing downtown, with reserved tables full and 25 people already on the waiting list.
“It really feels like everything is coming back downtown and around the city this year,” he said. “I feel like it’s even more vibrant than last year.”
Gaucho is closed on Sundays and Mondays, but general manager Sarah Powers said as a downtown Pittsburgh resident, she feels like the city is back this holiday season.
“The theater district is booming, all the restaurants are open, the bridges are reopened, and the city is vibrant again. All the buzz is back. It really feels like an awakening,” Powers said. he said.
Highmark First Night Pittsburgh festivities begin throughout the Cultural District on Dec. 31 at 6 p.m.A ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the reopening of the Clemente Bridge is scheduled for 8:45 p.m.
