Ocala, Florida – New video released by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office shows a deputy chasing a suspect before a fatal crash at an Ocala building Sunday night.
According to the sheriff’s office, a deputy attempted to pull over the suspect, Kyle Rust, 36, during a traffic stop.
However, dashcam footage shows Last fleeing from the deputy and eventually crashing into the deputy’s car as it veered off the road.
Both vehicles returned to the road and the pursuit continued, but the deputy eventually pulled over and declared he was unable to continue the pursuit, the video shows.
Smoke billowed from around the car and tires could be seen rolling off.
“My car is 10-7. I’m in the 400 block,” the deputy can be heard saying. “He’s still heading north. Shit.”
A “10-7” is typically used to declare a law enforcement officer “removed from duty,” according to law enforcement officials.
The sheriff’s office said the impact of the crash disabled the deputy’s vehicle, making it impossible for the deputy to continue the pursuit.
Investigators said it was later determined that Rust had crashed into a local real estate business on East Fort King Street. That was the final fatality, police said.
