An Irish pub that has been serving food in Chittenden County for more than a quarter of a century announced its closure the day after St. Patrick’s Day.
Kevin Cody, owner of Cody’s Irish Pub & Grill in Essex, posted a note to his “loyal patrons, friends and family” on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
A note from Cody reads: “After over 25 years of serving our community, it is with heavy hearts that we announce that effective today, March 18, 2024, due to personal circumstances, Cody’s Irish Pub will be permanently closing.” A new chapter begins. It’s time to start. ”
“It was an honor to spend time with you,” Cody wrote, adding that he was grateful for all the support his business had received. “I have nothing but love and respect for everyone who has come into and supported Cody’s over the years,” says Cody. “May the memories made here stay with you for years to come.”
Cody ended his note with a traditional Irish send-off. “May the sun warm your face. May the rain fall on your fields. And may God hold you in His hands until we meet again.”

Coby’s Irish Pub & Grille’s menu features more than half a dozen options, including the Rodeo Burger with bacon, American cheese, onion rings and spicy maple barbecue sauce, and Coby’s Guinness Burger with ground sirloin marinated in signature Irish beer. There were hamburgers available. Other menu items include pub-style fish and chips and the Irish Rachel sandwich with warm corned beef, sliced turkey, Swiss cheese, coleslaw and Thousand Island dressing on toasted rye.
On its last day of business on St. Patrick’s Day, Cody’s advertised on social media that it would be serving corned beef and cabbage, a Guinness special, Irish music and “friends, laughter, and unlimited shenanigans.”
