ST MARYS — Midwest Electric recently donated $14,175 to 19 local and regional charities and community projects through the cooperative’s Community Connections Fund.
Local recipients included in the list are:
- Lincolnview Bible Committee, $1,000 to bring Lincolnview 6th grade students to Ark Encounter.
- Van Wert County Humane Society, $1,000 to help control the cat population.
- CHP Home Care & Hospice, $1,500 to purchase an AED for the Adult Care Program.
- Off the Streets Van Wert County, Inc., $1,200 to help keep Van Wert County’s homeless off the streets.
- Van Wert Middle School, $600 to purchase supplies for Makerspace area.
Thanks to 90 percent of our members cutting up their electric bills and donating to the fund, Midwest Electric has donated $1,361,479 to 1,166 local charities since the fund’s inception in 1998.
Midwest Electric Community Connection Fund is a voluntary philanthropic program. Participating members’ monthly electricity bills are rounded up to the nearest dollar and the extra pennies are deposited into the fund. A Board of Trustees comprised of nine cooperating members and separate from the Midwest Power Board of Trustees will oversee the application and allocation process.

- Silver Birch Foundation, which supports elderly victims of elder abuse – $500.
- American Township Fire Department Portable MARCS Radio – $1,000.
- Allen County Sheriffs purchase gas masks and Tasers – $1,000.
- Lima Child Development Center purchases classroom supplies – $700.
- Auglaize County ESC purchases classroom products for special needs children for $400.
- Wapakoneta High School Post Prom provides a safe post-prom celebration – $200.
- First on the Moon purchased a full-color interpretive panel highlighting each chapter of Neil Armstrong’s life for $775.
- St. Mary’s Middle School, Purchase reading books for ELA students – $1,000.
- St. Mary’s Area Community Band Supports Sousa Concert – $400.
- Purchased an iPad, case, and apps for the St. Mary’s Elementary School Kindergarten classroom – $400.
- St. Mary’s Band Parents Group purchases new band uniforms – $550.
- Foundation Behavioral Health Services supports Y2Y Retreat – $1000.
- Mendon Union Alumni Association purchases Mendon Village “Welcome” sign for $750.
- Mercer County Educational Service Center supports wellness programs for teachers and students – $200.
- Lincolnview Bible Committee takes Lincolnview 6th grade students to Ark Encounter – $1,000.
