You can buy more than just $2,000 worth of gold bars at Costco. As Costco expands its precious metals business, customers can now also purchase $625 silver coin packs.
The discount retailer recently began selling coins for the first time, Chief Financial Officer Richard Galanti told CNN.
You can purchase a pack of 25 2024 Canadian Maple Leaf silver coins on the Costco website. Costco says each coin weighs 1 troy ounce and is made from 99.99% pure silver.
Issued by the Royal Mint of Canada, this coin features an image of Charles III on one side and a maple leaf on the other. The face value is CAD 5 each.

Galanti told analysts Thursday that Costco’s e-commerce sales growth in the quarter was “driven by sales of gold and, most recently, silver.” Like-for-like e-commerce sales for the quarter that ended Feb. 18 increased 18.4% compared to the same period last year.
Galanti previously said on Costco’s September earnings call that the 24-carat gold bars, which cost about $2,000 each, sold out in just “a few hours.” He later revealed that customers spent $100 million on bars in the quarter that ended Nov. 26.
Gold prices hit an all-time high this week.
Some shoppers say the coins they bought at Costco arrived scratched.
The Royal Canadian Mint says the silver coins are equipped with “enhanced” security features, including anti-counterfeiting technology and protections that reduce the possibility of white discoloration spots.
Coins cannot be returned or refunded and are limited to 5 cases per membership, all of which must be purchased in one order. Price includes insured, signed-for air shipping via UPS. We cannot ship to Puerto Rico, Alaska, or Hawaii.
But while the gold bars have a rating of 4.8 stars on Costco’s website, the pack of silver coins has a rating of just 3.4 stars based on 42 reviews. Many reviewers mentioned the packaging and shipping of the coins, stating that upon arrival, the case was unsealed and the coins spilled out. Several commentators said the coin was tarnished as a result.
Business Insider has reached out to Costco for comment on the review.
