Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 54th goal of 2023 in Al Nasr’s 4-1 victory over Al Ta’oun in the Saudi Pro League on Saturday, ending the year as the world’s top scorer.
The Portuguese forward’s 54 goals for club and country came in 59 games, ahead of Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane, Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé (52) and Manchester City star Erling. He surpassed Haaland (50 goals). None of the top candidates will play again in 2023.

This is the fifth time Ronaldo has finished the year as the world’s top scorer, having previously done so in 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015 while at Real Madrid. His 54 goals are the most Ronaldo has scored in a calendar year since he scored 55 in 2016, when he won one of the five Ballon d’Or awards.
The 38-year-old responded to the feat with an Instagram post, writing, “54 — I’ll say it when it’s done! Thank you, team.”
Ronaldo’s latest goal on Saturday came on the one-year anniversary of his signing for Saudi club Al Nasr following his controversial exit from Manchester United.
Al Nasr were leading 3-1 on Saturday with goals from Marcelo Brozovic, Aymeric Laporte and Otavio when Ronaldo headed home from six yards out in the second minute of stoppage time. This was his 20th goal in 18 league games so far this season.
With the win, Al Nasr remained second in the Saudi Pro League standings with 46 points from 19 games, seven points behind leaders Al Hilal.
