MOULTRIE — Two local charities will come together for a fundraising dinner in February.
Crossroads Gospel Rescue Mission and Crossroads for Her are separate agencies. Both provide housing, guidance and other support to people in need. One serves men and the other serves women.
The two are planning a dinner at Southern Regional Technical College, 800 N. Veterans Parkway, on Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $30 and there will be a silent auction and raffle. Funds are divided between organizations.
But more than anything, organizers hope that those attending the dinner will want to participate in their service. Donations are always welcome, but volunteers are even more valuable, according to Jamie Rowley of Crossroads and Linda Barr of Crossroads for Her.
They said the dinner is a way to introduce their organization to the community.
The evening’s speaker will be Ken Bevell, associate pastor of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany. A native of Jacksonville, Florida, he came to Sherwood Baptist in February 2007. He retired for service after his 20 years in the US Marine Corps, which included tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. His responsibilities at Sherwood Baptist include coordinating major events, coordinating the security, usher and greeter ministries, and connecting new members and visitors with the Body of Christ and the Sherwood family, according to a biography provided by Crossroads. This includes providing support. He has appeared in two church feature films. He has appeared as Lt. Michael Simmons in “Fireproof” and Nathan Hayes in “Courageous.”

Crossroads Gospel Rescue Mission has been serving the community for over 50 years and has evolved many times to meet the varying needs of the community. About six years ago, Dr. Randy Benner was appointed president of the organization and changed its focus from a homeless shelter to a transition center, an effort to help men turn their lives around through Christian teaching, guidance, and support. led.
Crossroads for Her opened in March 2023, based on the same principles as Men’s Mission. Berle said certain programs and initiatives have been modified to meet the unique needs of women.
