Direct Relief today announced its latest round of grants awarded by the Health Equity Fund.
“This latest round of more than $7 million in grants, made possible through generous support from Mackenzie Scott, the AbbVie Foundation, and Eli Lilly & Company, is a powerful investment in funding that is dedicated to eliminating health disparities and improving the quality of care. This is the latest infusion of funding to organizations working on this,” said Dr. Byron Scott, Direct Relief COO and co-chair of the Health Equity Fund. “Direct Relief is proud of, supports and appreciates the work they do every day.”
The AbbVie Foundation committed $10 million over five years to the Health Equity Fund in 2020. Since then, the AbbVie Foundation has distributed grants to 20 of her organizations, and this year, the foundation is awarding her $1.6 million in grants to 10 organizations, including: Concern, Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center, Family Health Center of San Diego, Food Well Alliance, Key Cha E Nah Corporation, Mexican American Opportunity Foundation, Minority Behavioral Health Group, National Black Nurses Association, University of Texas at El Paso, and Vecinos Inc.

Lilly also supported the Fund with a $5 million contribution in early 2021 as part of its Racial Justice Commitment. This is a powerful effort to provide resources such as education, health care, economic security, and employment within the communities in which the Foundation operates. Direct Relief distributed a portion of this initial funding to eight recipients across the United States starting in 2021.
This year, the $880,000 raised from Lilly’s efforts will be shared among four new recipients: Denver Health and Hospitals Authority, Cheyenne River Youth Project, GirlTREK, and the Asian Pacific Islander Wellness Center.

Since the fund’s inception in 2021, more than $50 million has been awarded to support 160 organizations across the United States.
Award recipients were selected by the Health Equity Fund’s Advisory Board. The advisory committee includes:
