PENSACOLA, Fla. – Pensacola area Navy and Marine Corps tenant commanders and command representatives met on board a flight at Naval Air Station Pensacola (NAS) on February 21 to celebrate the 2024 Pensacola Naval and Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) Launched active fund activities.
The effort, scheduled to begin March 1, is a voluntary opportunity to donate funds for the direct benefit and support of fellow Sailors and Marines.
“Ninety-one percent of what we donate goes directly to Sailors and Marines,” said Col. Aaron Blank, commander of the 21st Marine Aviation Training Support Group (MATSG-21), this year’s campaign chair. Ta. “This is a very low administrative cost compared to other charities.”
Although NMCRS receives no government funding, for 120 years we have been helping Sailors, Marines and their families respond to crises, prepare for the future, solve problems and find peace of mind through financial assistance and education. I have been supporting. NMCRS can also assist retired Sailors and Marines, widows and children of deceased Sailors and Marines.
“Our annual fundraising theme is ‘By Ourselves, For Ourselves,'” said Pensacola NMCRS Director Joy Burns. “That means it’s service members who are raising money to support other Marines and sailors in times of need.”
Examples of support offered include budgeting classes. counseling; emergency financing; Financial and administrative support for funeral services. Temporary lodging and food assistance. and interest-free loans.
Burns said Pensacola NMCRS raised more than $810,000 for the nonprofit charity last year. Much of NMCRS’ support is provided by volunteers at the Pensacola office and the NMCRS Thrift Shop located in Building 3736 at Corry Station.
“Last year, 59 volunteers contributed more than 8,300 hours of service,” Burns said.

Dubbed the “Cradle of Naval Aviation,” NAS Pensacola is designed to support the operations and training missions of tenant commands, including the Naval Aviation Technical Training Center (NATTC). Naval Aviation School Command (NASC); Marine Aviation Training Support Groups (MATSG) 21 and 23 serve as the headquarters for Naval Education and Training Command (NETC).
