Rachel Homan will be leading Team Canada for the fourth time at the world championships in Sydney this week.
It’s been a long time since she last wore a Maple Leaf on the world stage. In Beijing in 2017, she won the gold medal undefeated.
“It’s great to be back. It was really great to play in Canada with the whole arena cheering us on. We were feeling the emotion of the crowd and it was a lot of fun.”
There’s a difference between playing in Beijing and Sydney, she said.
“In 2017, we were in Beijing, so the background and circumstances were a little different. Of course, we definitely enjoyed the food a little more in Sydney, Nova Scotia.”
She also thinks the atmosphere at the venue could not have been more different.
“The people here are nice and friendly. It’s a very welcoming city.”
She added: “I think World Curling will do a great job and put on a great event at the World Championships.”

Looking at the current setup, she has full praise for her team (Tracy Fleury in third and Emma Miskew in second). They are Sarah Wilkes, the lead, and Rachel Brown, the understudy, who have been on Rachel’s team through her ups and downs.
“We have a different lineup now and this lineup brings a lot of experience. We’re talking great strategies on the ice and that’s really helping our game and rock management. I think. We put a lot into the game and everyone has had a lot of great experience, so we bring that to our game as well.”
Second player Emma Miskew has been by Rachel’s side throughout her curling career and Rachel has a special feeling for her talented deputy.
“I feel so safe with Emma. She’s a phenomenal athlete and we have the same goals, the same drive, the same motivation. We inspire each other and want to be better. , we want to support each other. I’m so lucky to call her my best friend and I’m so lucky to be on the team with her,” says Rachel.
Team Canada now has a clean sweep and a spot in the playoffs. She looks in front of her and says: “We’re here to bring a medal back to Canada. We’re going to give it everything we’ve got.” I think we proved that this week. ”
