Fort Mitchell Bakery owner Elizabeth Hughes will be competing in a national entrepreneurship competition in May as part of the popular reality show airing on Prime Video.
Last September, Ms Hughes submitted a video entry for Little Flower Baked Goods and found out she had been selected after Christmas, beating out thousands of other applicants.
She will compete on the 13th season of “The Blox,” which helps entrepreneurs hone their skills and business acumen, competing for cash prizes and further exposure for their businesses.
Participants compete in an intensive week-long bootcamp aimed at taking their companies to the next level. The scores for each round will be accumulated daily and finally someone will be chosen as the best startup of his Blox.
“This appealed to me because I have no business experience at all. I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a communications degree, and my father runs a company, and I worked under him. I worked there and learned a lot there,” Hughes said.
After his father sold his original business, Beckfield College, Hughes knew it was time to pivot and change his career. Always passionate about baking, she enrolled at Cincinnati State Culinary Arts School at the age of 47 to hone her skills. There her idea of opening her own business began to take hold. After her graduation, she first chose to start a business from her home.
“I started with cookies and set up a commercial kitchen at home, but within a year it was too big to take out of the house. I was up all night finishing it.
Command. ”
At that point, it was time to move to a brick-and-mortar store. She chose the small business district of Ft. Located on Dixie Highway next to Camporosso, Mitchell delivers Little Flowers to the neighborhood.
This place used to be a yogurt shop, but it recently closed, so she took advantage of the opportunity and location. Hughes said she started with cookies and cupcakes and has since added unique cakes and macarons.
Hughes will travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma for a week of recording at the end of May.
There is no set air date for the show yet, but it will likely air on Prime Video in late summer.
