Sawhney revealed that he received a monthly stipend of 2,000 rupees from the hotel. “This is disgusting. How can he survive in Gurugram? Koon chu rahein hain bachon ka,” Sawhney wrote.

I went to a startup meetup at Le Meridien in Gurugram.
A young lobby manager approached me wanting to help and we chatted for a bit. The boy was from Dehradun, a graduate from a local catering college, and had been interning for the past three months.
Le Méridien pays him only Rs…

The viral post sparked outrage on social media. In response to this post, one user commented, “In industries like retail, many interns are free, but many startup companies only pay travel expenses. Welcome to the reality of internships in India.”
Another user wrote, “This guy from Dehradun clearly chose the wrong industry to pursue a career in. Too many jobs with low pay.”
A third user wrote: “The pain of hospitality: underpaid, overqualified, the story of so many.”
“Absolutely shameless! This is outrageously below minimum wage. Internship or not. This explains why service levels across the hotel have plummeted. It’s not the boy’s fault. It’s my fault.”
A fifth user commented: “Unless you are deceived in the name of training, this salary is definitely in violation of the minimum daily wage requirements of the Labor Law.”
