JY Kwak, Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer of Content Technologies, talks about supporting music artists and their IP.
As JY Kwak himself admits, he has never been a musical person. However, he ended up leading a company that specializes in K-Pop and is dedicated to managing intellectual property (IP) in the music industry. Kwak is driven not by beats but by his belief in democratizing assets.
For several years, Mr. Kwak was content to use his financial resources at startups rather than working as a small cog in a major bank. But he still wanted to put his wealth management skills to better use to change the world and help people.

Inspiration came in the late 2010s, when Kwak noticed the massive increase in music streaming. While YouTube, Amazon, Apple Music, and Spotify have reduced traditional music sales, the convenience of these platforms has curbed piracy and encouraged the discovery of new artists. The value of music IP was clear. In 2020, he founded Content Technologies, which manages a vast portfolio of music rights in Asia, alongside investments in music services, production and digital entertainment innovation.
