FDI inflows into North Macedonia totaled €616.7 million in 2023, down 17% year-on-year, according to data from the country’s central bank.
In the fourth quarter of 2023, FDI inflows amounted to EUR 232.6 million as a result of intercompany loans, and the increase in equity investments amounted to EUR 49 million.

“The slowdown in technology and renewable energy projects is the main driver,” said Glenn Barkley, head of FDI services at GlobalData. “However, North Macedonia has seen a surge in foreign investment activity since 2020, with 2023 levels still above pre-coronavirus levels.”
Overall, FDI levels have been highly volatile over the past decade as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. According to UNCTAD’s World Investment Report 2023, investment amount reached 607,097 euros in 2018, but decreased to 212.86 million euros in 2020.
