Josh has always been good at math, and after seeing his family suffer through the stock market recession and financial recession, he decided to pursue a finance major at the University of California, Green Bay. Josh highlights his experiences at the Willie D. Davis Institute for Financial Investments and the Charles Schwab Center for Personal Financial Planning and the impact they had on his career goals. These UW and Green Bay resources both benefited his education and internship experience, which led him to a full-time job offer after graduation. With a passion for mathematics and a desire to help people take control of their finances, Josh is determined to make a difference in the lives of people struggling with income, budgets, and financial security.

transcript: I really enjoyed mathematics in general. I had some really great teachers in high school, and my dad was always a very successful entrepreneur. He has been very successful in many businesses. After watching my family and countless other families struggle during the 2008 financial crisis, I knew I could truly help people in the field of financial planning. Then, when I learned about UWGB’s finance major, I decided to make the most of it. The Willie D. Davis Investment and Finance Lab has a lot of really cool, cutting-edge technology that we can use. The monitors and symbols moving around the room are a great way to get a feel for what it’s like to work in a real trading venue. There is also a lot of great software available that you can use to research and analyze different stocks in the trading arena. Student Managed Investment Fund. The Charles Schwab Financial Wellness Center has also been a great addition to his finance program here at UWGB. Through my internship, I was able to use several rooms here for private client meetings. I also have a minor in Personal Financial Planning, which is where I’ve taken several courses and what I’ve gotten there. Hands-on experience with real-life scenarios for clients. My favorite classes are Financial Plan Development and Student Managed Investment Funds. This gave me insight into both aspects of the financial world: advice and investing, and helped me decide where I wanted my future to go by advising on what types of giving. I have the best of both worlds as I can not only invest for my clients but also help with financial planning. I’m really looking forward to starting when I graduate this winter. My internship this summer ultimately led to a full-time job offer, and it felt great. This fall was a great relief from a lot of stress and I was able to really enjoy my last semester of school. I really enjoy helping people. I think that with my attitude towards mathematics and finance and the knowledge I have gained here at GB, I can help people in the financial world. Middle- and low-income Americans are struggling financially. I help my clients manage their income and budget and develop financial plans tailored to them and their individual needs.
