The Gloucester Fire Department teamed up with Addison Gilbert Hospital’s Access Services Department to raise money to fill the Cape Ann Kids Holiday Fund’s holiday store.
For nearly 10 years, the Cape Ann Kids Holiday Fund has been helping Cape Ann’s underprivileged children have a brighter Christmas, serving communities in Gloucester, Lockport, Manchester-by-the-Sea, Essex, and Ip. They have provided toys to over 1,250 children in Switch.
The foundation provides gifts to children whose families are struggling financially by operating a holiday store stocked with gifts to make the holidays a little brighter for children. The store is operated by Gloucester’s Wellspring House and Pathways for Kids, with generous support from Senator Bruce Tarr and Action.
This year’s store was located at Pathways for Kids, 29 Emerson Ave.
Gloucester firefighters Dean DeCoste, Mike Michel, and Lt. Lucas McRobb. Bud Doucette and Tom Seis collected cash donations for the toy drive during Thanksgiving week, Chief Eric Smith said. He also set up a GoFundMe page to raise additional funds, and toys were collected at Gloucester Fire Department headquarters.
The need is greater than ever, with 366 children between the ages of 12 and 18 signing up for assistance this year.
Gloucester firefighters and Addison Gilbert Hospital Access Services Department staff headed to Walmart in Danvers to purchase new unwrapped gifts to add to the toys collected on Dec. 15. The gifts were delivered on Thursday, December 14th.
“We would like to personally thank everyone who contributed to this holiday effort, along with the Addison Gilbert Hospital Access Services Department,” Smith said in a prepared statement. “This is a great cause and a great organization here at Cape Anne.”
