ABINGDON, Va. (WFXR) — Food City officials have awarded $27,500 to the Southwest Virginia Center for Higher Education to support the development of a new regional simulation lab for nursing and allied health care.
As part of the project, the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center is converting a 1,200-square-foot classroom into a state-of-the-art interdisciplinary laboratory that is expected to train 450 students annually.
The lab will be stocked with medical supplies to mimic real-world clinical experiences and will be equipped with low-fidelity adult, pediatric, and infant mannequins, as well as virtual reality to simulate both medical and home health care facilities. technology is used.
By providing a more powerful simulated experience, students experience a variety of medical situations that may occur in the future. The lab will be a unique model for providing training opportunities, fostering interdisciplinary relationships and activities, and advancing regional medical education.
